35 reasons to celebrate

35 seems to be the magic number in Renton today. Employees at the 737 factory celebrated as the program officially reached the rate of 35 airplanes per month. The first airplane at the new rate was delivered today to AWAS Aviation Services, Inc. Norwegian Air Shuttle will lease the airplane from AWAS.

Meanwhile, the 35th airplane at the new 35 rate is rolling out of the factory today—but not before serving as the backdrop for an employee event celebrating the efforts to reach this milestone. With beach balls falling from the ceiling and a live band playing in front of thousands of employees, individual teams were recognized for their innovative ideas that allowed the program to become a lean machine.

Today’s event was also a chance for employees to celebrate the news that the 737 MAX will be built in Renton. Saying the accomplishments of the entire 737 team played a key role in selecting Renton as the Home of the MAX, 737 VP & GM Beverly Wyse congratulated employees for their dedication. Passing the 1,000 mark for orders and commitments for the 737 MAX shows just how popular the airplane has already become in a short amount of time. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again now. 2012 will be the Year of the MAX.

I’m constantly amazed at the work our employees do… and it’s paying off big time. They’re the reason we’ve reached 35, and they’ll be the reason we’ll soon hit 38 and 42.

I am sure the original dreamers and creators of the 737 would have never thought that the 737 would still be in production let alone with the construction of 35 aircraft per month alone nearly 50 years later after the building of the first 737. Who knows, perhaps on the fiftieth year of the 737, 50 per month!

Reasons of ultimate celibration it is!!! Team 737 Rocks the spirit to 35 per month. Steadily it will hit 39....will fly towards 42. Numbers are amazing.

Looks like Boeing is set to have a great year for narrow-body deliveries in 2012. 1968 was a notable year with the 707, 727, and 737 combined for a total of 376. So was 1999, with the 717, 737, and 757 adding up to 399 deliveries.

Concerning the 737 Max. I understand the advances in engine technology being brought forward, The Boeing 787 influences applied, but return on technology is not there for the Max having a composite materials body on smaller aircraft. Will the Max employ a new wing technology as found on the 747-8 or the 787? Will the Max also incorporate newer Aluminium technological methods to lower weight or could it use a composite wing box and wings with a an advanced metallurgical body thus not changing production techniques in the Renton,WA facility? Just curious.

I flew AA SFO-ORD-SFO yesterday (mileage run). The ORD-SFO run was with a new B737 with the new interiors. Big difference between the older B738's. The plane felt much more spacious and comfortable. The mood lighting also helped. I like how it can change from blue to orange, etc.

Those luggage bins on the B738 looked HUGE and were indeed quite spacious. I also liked how the first class bins open/close. The F/A was quite happy with it.

Kudos to Boeing on improving the product. I can't wait to fly on the B737MAX.
