Whenever someone asks me how long we’ll keep building 767s, my answer is always the same. As long as customers keep ordering them. And thanks to customers like FedEx Express, the orders keep coming in.

Today, FedEx announced an order for more 767 Freighters. It reinforces just how valued the 767’s capabilities are today and in the future. The 767 Freighters will provide similar capacity as FedEx’s current MD10s— with a 30 percent increase in fuel efficiency and a minimum of a 20 percent reduction in unit operating costs.

Congratulations to FedEx and to our 767 team in Everett.

The case of the 767 is quite interesting because many people think that it is now dead and buried. In reality it is well alive. The freighter version will live a long life and most probably there will be some sales of the passenger version. An airline or an individual who does not need high utilization rate might be more interested by the 767 because its ownership cost is lower than the 787 or the A330.

I was even very surprised that one airline executive said that in some cases the A350-800XWB is less attractive than the 767 (click here).

Yes the 787 is supposed to be the best thing invented for aviation since Orwell took to the skies but action speaks louder than words and the 767 just keeps on proving itself to be one of if not the best planes ever built in the history of aviation. This plane was developed in 1979 and first flown 1981 long before most of your readers where born and it still keeps getting new orders (1,000 plus and climbing). It is true testament on how well this plane was designed and built, it doesn’t have all the latest bells and whistles, it isn’t built with the latest sexiest materials but pilots love flying it and passengers feel safe and secure in it and it has a proven track record that puts it at the top of its class, this plane just works period. The 787 has a tough act to follow…

767 is one of the most underestimated planes ;it may not be as wide as Airbus ,but it is a great reliable workhorse , nothing fancy , could be wider a bit, other wise fine . Capable and fuel efficient.
Fed Ex must have got a great deal.

For those who travel in the economy class, nothing matches the 2-3-2 seating of the 767. This aircraft can be improved on and on like the 737. Since there are always different markets to be served by different seating arrangements, the 767 and the 787 can coexist and thrive together.

the 767 frighter is not bad as a DC-10 replacement with about the same cargo capacity and less than two-third the fuel burn. With 767 production schedule projected to go on through 2019, the plane is as useful now as it was in the '80s,'90s. and the last decade.

A classic plane beating the newbies in their own game. Who says 1980 technology is obsolete these days. Congrats to the B767. I love how it ages gracefully.

Randy,
FDX Express is to tentatively take delivery of its 20TH B777F on Aug 1, 2012. Weather permitting can we get you and the media to give this event some "splash" publicity. And if possible, can I suggest
a larger than normal-sized picture and video(again if the weather cooperates)of the event.
We at FDX still use the cliche 'its a game changer'. We love to flight dispatch it and our flight crews enjoy flying it. B777F - A truly remarkable airplane and we cannot wait to bring the B767-300F on line in 2013.
