The gamechanger

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said today felt like being a kid on Christmas morning. And we were more than happy to play Santa Claus with the launch of the 737 MAX 200.

Sporting a Seattle Seahawks jersey and a leather bomber jacket that read “gamechanger,” O’Leary endorsed the newest member of the 737 MAX family with a commitment for 100 airplanes with first delivery in 2019. The airline also has options for 100 more.

While the MAX 200 can accommodate up to 200 seats with 20 percent lower fuel use, Ryanair plans to operate the airplane with 197 seats. The airline will also make use of the Boeing Sky Interior and new slimline seats to offer more leg room than their existing 737-800 fleet.


This is an airplane that Ryanair has been asking for—and we’re proud to finally be able to bring it to market. We are developing this airplane in response to the needs of the fast growing low-cost sector, which is forecasted to account for 35 percent of single-aisle capacity by 2033.

While the heart of the single-aisle market will remain at 160 seats, the 737 MAX will give Ryanair and other customers the flexibility they need to offer lower ticket prices and meet growing demand—while keeping fuel costs down.


Michael will join the Boeing team out in Seattle tomorrow to meet with some of our employees and to take delivery of his latest 737-800 just out of the Renton factory. We trust he’ll remember to bring the Seahawks jersey along as well.

Congratulations to Ryanair buys up to 200 Beoing new aircraft!

There are more than 51 million passengers traveling between US and Europe each year which is about 465 flights each day!

And more than 87,000 flights are in the skies in the United States on any given day where the controllers handle an average of 64 million takeoffs and landings in one year in USA! While on any typical day, around 30,000 flights travel through European space!

Congratulations again to Boeing for the contributions for the flights as above with the even increasing flights between US and Europe in the future!

And all the best too to the coming US-EU FTA deal !

Congrats to Boeing and Ryanair on the big order for the 737 MAX 200 and also on the same day Southwest introduced it's new livery and new split scimitar winglets on the 737-800, a very big day. It won't be long until the 737 MAX reaches parody or surpasses the orders committed to the A320NEO. Not a bad couple of months.

I noticed that the 737-200 depiction has several changes on the engine area over the NG. Even though I know this is a larger engine enlet it appears the 737 MAX engine configuration has lost its oval opening for mitigating ground clearance problems. Secondly it has acquired 787 like scallops at the engine stern for mitgation of noise. Are these features a true definition for the MAX or is some artists depictions from current technology found on the 787. Could you please elaborate on these observations from the video? Thanks

The MAX 200 is based on the 737 MAX 8 airframe. But we'll incorporate a mid-exit door which in turn increases the exit limit.
